I still don't understand why countries play in this tournament.
Isn't it the same as team swistzerland showing up in the stanley cup playoffs? Also if they truly want to represent Canada in this tourney why not give team Canada all the Canadians from every club in Switzerland. The Spengler cup is weird, and when Canadians are beating team Canada it is even weirder.
If I was a fan of HC Davos I would be very irritated that my team lost the ultimate trophy to a country!!! It makes no sense.

its a club team tournament, and technically its not team canada (the nation hense the different jerseys), but the canadian club team (which you have to be canadian to play on) kinda like the missasauga ice dogs under cherry laugh.gif

its gives canadian players that dont have a team, or that play in europe to get some tournament action. if i recall correctly, doug lidster played for the canadian club team for a few years before he retired.

the spengler cup is actually quite prestigious in europe, the oldest ice hockey tournament on that continent.

the canadian club team was actually invited by HC Davos, and has become the 2nd favourite team for the Davos fans.
