If you've been reading the "GM Place last night" thread, you've seen that it's turned into a discussion over how much longer Trev will play. My thoughts are pretty clear in that thread. I won't repeat them other than to say that I think Trevor should retire this season and make it public before the season ends so he can have a proper send off on our final home date of the season.

watching Trevthis year I still see that he has more jump and energy then guys half his age. If he can still play the role of checker or 4th liner, I say go for it. My only beef with him is his salary. For that role he should be getting paid $500,000 to $750,000 at most. But I still think Trev can be effective in that role for a couple more years. Look at Bryan Trottier. He played a third of his career as a checker, after his superstar days were over. Plus this core a has a window of 2 to 3 years at most. I would hate if Trev missed out on the opportunity to win a cup. I mean realistically, who would you rather have, Lee Goren or Josh Green or Trevor? Trevor at 40 years old is still more effectove then those jobbers. And dont worry about giving him a proper send off. Look at the one Messier got last night. Or the one Steamer got when he left. Linden will get the same here. Don't worry about that.

for some reason never got into that one, as for trevor 2 more years, signed cheap of course (which I think he would and will do) for the good of the team, I dont care if he's old(not all that old) and cant score like he used to, come playoff time his experience and leadership will be priceless, he will have that veteran dude who never won a cup stamp on him, something Bourque, Andreychuck type of thing working for him and this team.

I think you're blind.

I get sad every time I see Trevor Step on the ice.

I really hope this is his last year.

Calling people blind won't make your comments credible!

Linden is not the same old Linden who can score 30 goals a season. However, he is still way better than Goren or Brookbank with his experience. For 550k to 750k, I don't mind having him back as a Canuck next season.

Well sure, it's all relative isn’t it. Right now Trevor is playing like a fringe NHL player, next year he will probably be even worse. One would like to believe that the canucks would be coming into next year with a team of solid NHL players or young players that they hope will blossom into good players. Trevor Linden is not likely to be in either category, but if he truly is their best option (which would suck BTW) then sure why not.

Totally agree. Linden still has jump and energy (Not as much, but definatley more than others. His contribution on the PK has been limited due to Kelser's PK of late but Linden still has at least 1 year left. Even at 5-7 mins a game he can produce by more means than just goals.

Next yr, cheap is good. We will need the extra 500 K...

I say Linden. Especially since Kesler is still in his learning curve. Linden will be back for one more year.

One more year folks....

I agree, hopefully when his playing time gets around the 7 minute mark
he will take the hint, retire and all the fans who get all mushy about him
can have their Trev celebration and the team can put its best on the ice and win. No player should come before the success of the team, a leader would know that. He will score a goal soon though in hope, he has to do something once and awhile.

There is only downside to Linden's game. The decline is painful to watch.

Nonis missed the boat by not buying out his contract prior to the season.

It wasn’t an argument it was an opinion.

Mind you considering you just recommended signing Linden for not 1 but "2 more years" I'm not surprised you didn’t understand the difference smile.gif.

Linden has declined dramatically in the past 2 years, I cant imagine how bad he will be in 2 more.

he needs more penalty shots! biggrin.gif, but seriously 92 pts in 112 gms in the playoffs aint nothing to sneeze at, I mean come on he's only on the 4th line, acting like this one player alone is gonna make or break this team, jezus, Im just saying once again his experience will be invaluable, and he's like what 35,36?

Yep, he was on some great playoff teams in Vancouver, Ronning and Courtnall were perfect linemates for sure. Not much in the past decade though.
