I actually work as an alcohol and drug counsellor and it's not uncommon to find occasionally a person presenting with an addiction to hydro-morphine or hydro-cordone addiction - very addictive stuff! Any drug which has an opioid base is addictive. It can be a real bitch to get off of once your on. Ya kind of have to look at it as the same kind of reality that a heroin addict goes through since the opioid activates the same kind of neuro-transmitter (dopamine) in the brain; this is responsible for activating the pleasure ctr. of the brain, so eventually, withdrawal becomes equated by the body as a loss of pleasure and happiness. If i was you, I would be really careful and also ask my GP about non-narcotic pain meds. I've seen many a decent person over the years reduced to mush since their addiction had progressed to the point where they were actively seeking street alternatives i.e., morphine, opium, heroin, illegal methadone, etc; quite a down hill slide that one would never imagine at the outset.

The up-side of getting off of the T3's is that they can be toxic for the liver over time. the down-side as you're discovering, is that there's not so many safe alternatives. You might also ask your GP about pain mgmt clinics as well.

Withdrawal aside, when you combine the drug with alcohol a synergistic effect happens where the effect is greater than one plus one equalling two... it could in fact be equalling 3 or 4+ - so be careful there man.
